Climbers Iker and Eneko Pou have just reported to ExplorerWeb that a French rescue team has successfully reached Fay Manners and Michelle Dvorak. The two women had been stranded at 6500 meters on Chaukhamba III (6974 meters) in the Garhwal Himalayas for the past two days facing freezing temperatures and harsh conditions.
According to Iker Pou, Manners’ social media representative informed him that the two climbers, along with the French team, have now safely descended to 5,300 meters. The plan is to continue descending tomorrow to an altitude where a helicopter can safely pick them up. Both women are reported to be in good health despite the ordeal.
The French rescue team, consisting of four climbers from the elite Groupe Militaire de Haute Montagne based in Chamonix, will continue their mission to climb the challenging East Pillar of Chaukhamba III once the rescue is fully completed.
