Today, a group of Sherpa climbers (Rope Fixing Team) reached the top of Cho Oyu after fixing ropes for others to follow. The clients, who are the paying climbers, will start their summit attempts soon.

On Cho Oyu, all the teams are working together, which is different from Shisha Pangma, where each group is using their own strategy. The Sherpa team that made it to the top today included three from Furtenbach Adventures, one from Madison Mountaineering, one from Climbalaya, one from Adventure Consultants, and one from Alpenglow Expeditions.

Adrian Ballinger from Alpenglow Expeditions told ExplorersWeb, “It was really nice to see the climbers come together like in the old days, especially when facing tough, dangerous conditions. They made smart choices and were ready to turn back if things got too risky.”

Lukas Furtenbach shared that the rest of his team, led by guide Ulises Corvalan, is planning to summit tomorrow. Alpenglow’s team, with climbers Carla Perez and Topo Mena, is aiming to reach the top around October 7 or 8.
