Nepal Earthquake | Jajarkot Claims 137 Lives
Nepal Earthquake on November 4, the death toll in the aftermath of the earthquake has tragically surged to 137. These numbers encompass both Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts, which were severely affected by this disaster. Krishna Bahadur GC, the Minister for Law and Spokesperson of the Karnali Province government, reported that 99 lives were lost in Jajarkot, with 69 women and 30 men among the victims. Rukum Paschim also witnessed 38 fatalities, equally divided between men and women.
Injuries Reported in the Aftermath
The earthquake has resulted in a significant number of injuries, with 81 cases in Jajarkot, 72 in Rukum Paschim, and three each in Jumla and Dailekh, along with one case in Salyan. Those injured are currently receiving medical treatment in the healthcare facilities of Jajarkot, Rukum Paschim, and Banke districts. Prime Minister Visits Earthquake-Affected Areas
In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ accompanied by several ministers and leaders, has personally visited the areas struck by the earthquake to interact with survivors and assess the situation.
Earthquake Update: 128 Fatalities in Jajarkot and Rukum West
In a subsequent report, it has been confirmed that a total of 128 people lost their lives in the earthquake that occurred in Jajarkot and Rukum West the previous night. Furthermore, 155 individuals have sustained injuries in both districts. Shailendra Thapa, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Armed Police Force Central Office, has provided the details, indicating that Jajarkot suffered 92 casualties and 70 injuries, while Rukum West recorded 36 fatalities and 85 injuries as a result of the quake.
Ongoing Search and Rescue Efforts
Search and rescue operations are currently underway. A team comprising 67 Armed Police Force personnel, led by DSP Bikash Thapa, has been dispatched from Ashram Battalion in Jajarkot to locate and rescue earthquake survivors. Additionally, another team of 24 members, led by Armed Police Inspector Jhakku Prasad Sharma from No. 47 Battalion in Rukum West, and a team of 11 personnel, led by Sub-Inspector Bal Bahadur Thapa, are now actively involved in rescue efforts.
Nepali Army Joins Relief Initiatives
The Nepali Army has also joined the relief efforts. Krishna Prasad Bhandari, the spokesperson for the Nepali Army, has confirmed the deployment of army personnel for rescue and relief operations in the earthquake-affected regions of Jajarkot and Rukum West. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4, struck at 11:47 pm on a Friday, with its epicenter in Ramidanda, located in Barekot Rural Municipality-1 of Jajarkot.
Prime Minister Appeals for Unified Relief and Treatment
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has expressed the government’s strong commitment to providing relief rehabilitation, and medical care to those injured in the earthquake. In a message on social media Prime Minister Dahal has called upon all political parties the private sector, and civil society to collaborate and join forces in rescuing, providing relief, and supporting the rehabilitation of those affected by the earthquake.
Government Support and Financial Aid
Prime Minister Dahal has emphasized his presence in the affected areas to assess the extent of damage, listen to the experiences of victims, rescue the injured, and provide assistance to earthquake survivors. The earthquake, measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale and centered in Ramidanda of Barekot Rural Municipality-1 in Jajarkot, struck on a Friday night.
Prime Minister Dahal, accompanied by a medical team and relief supplies, arrived in the earthquake-affected areas this morning. He visited individuals receiving treatment in various hospitals in Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim, inquiring about their health status. He reassured the injured individuals not to panic, offering the government’s unwavering support during this critical time.
Furthermore, the government has made the decision to allocate Rs 50 million to each of the earthquake-impacted districts, Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim. Prime Minister Dahal has scheduled a cabinet meeting for Sunday morning to make the necessary decisions regarding relief efforts for the earthquake survivors.
