A group of five Russian climbers has been missing for about a week while trying to reach the top of Dhaulagiri, the seventh-highest mountain in the world.
Pemba Jangbu Sherpa, the head of “I Am Trekking and Expedition,” shared that Alex Dusheyko (seen in a Sept. 23 Instagram post from Dhaulagiri), Oleg Kruglov, Vladimir Chistikov, Mikhail Nosenko, and Dmitrii Shpilevoi haven’t been in touch since they left their high camp on October 6.
“They last spoke to fellow climbers at base camp around 11 a.m. yesterday,” Sherpa said. Initially, there were six climbers, but Valerii Shamalo decided to turn back and head down the mountain.
Earlier in the week, two Russian climbers, Denis Aleksenko and Artem Tsenzevintsky, successfully reached the summit of Dhaulagiri using alpine-style climbing. After returning to base camp, they warned of dangerous conditions near the top and mentioned that there were no fixed ropes in place.
